Meet The Owner…
Hello and welcome to my company’s website; a place where you can begin building (or rebuilding) your healthy home or workplace. Before I share with you what Discreet Air Quality (DAQ) is all about, it would be worthwhile to know a little bit more about who Josh Winton is. For starters, the indoor environmental industry is not just a field that I work in, but a near and dear passion of mine.
I began my career in 2006, as a mold remediation technician, while still working at the United Parcel Service – Shout out to UPS! From 2006 to 2009, I worked my way up the mold remediation ladder, improving from field technician to field supervisor. I even began to dabble in the estimating process, meeting with prospective clients to review their situations and providing them with remediation quotes. By this time, I was “hooked” – genuinely enjoying assisting property owners address their mold-related concerns.
In 2010, I decided to venture out on my own, opening a mold remediation company named Discreet Restoration. It wasn’t long before I owned a couple of vans, varying tools and a warehouse full of mold remediation supplies. Even more precious than all of this was the employees that were brought on to make up the incredible staff that is predominantly still there to this day. That’s right – Discreet Restoration is alive and well!
Over the next 8 years, I would build on this passion, developing an obsession for all things remediation. I learned about various other exposures that warrant corrective actions, such as harmful VOCs, fiberglass contamination, dust mites, etc. It was the combination of this broadening view of the industry, and numerous instances of seeing clients let down by various indoor environmental professionals (IEPs) that would ultimately lead to me entering the assessment/consulting space.
Flash forward to 2025: DAQ has now been in operation for 6 exceptional years! Over the last number of years, while being involved in both the remediation sector, as well as the assessment division, I grew interest in Mycology, as well as Building Science. While I do not consider myself a Building Biologist, my stronger understanding of these two fields has allowed me to solve indoor environmental concerns that I couldn’t even begin to understand once upon a time.
Enough about me though… If you’d like to learn more, feel free to follow me on any of my active social platforms, including my personal (professional) blog.

DAQ: Beyond The Leader of the Pack
Anyone in business will tell you that one person alone cannot shape an industry. And while “IAQ Josh” does a great job promoting educational information across various social platforms, other team members here at DAQ are also doing their part – evolving not only our processes, but also being examples of what the “proper” indoor environmental industry is all about.
Our team, consisting of one other professional with diverse a restoration background, is able to tackle a wealth of indoor environmental concerns brought forth by our clients. Sandy Castano heads up our Moisture Mapping (Survey) division, ensuring that some of the industries largest restoration contractors have the accurate information they need to execute successful mitigation projects. She is well versed in infrared thermography, as well as evaluating moisture concentrations within various building materials, at varying depths.
In addition to her experience with Large Loss Moisture Mapping, Sandy is also a Certified AHERA Building Inspector. With this designation, she often manages large scale Asbestos Surveys – overseeing the sample collection process and ensuring that all documentation is accurate and readily available. During a post-hurricane response in 2024, Sandy was part of 20+ surveys, in which 1,800+ samples were collected from various condominiums, resorts and campuses.
